Deviated septum

Deviated septum treatment at Peak ENT

A deviated septum is more than a structural issue — it’s a condition that can disrupt your breathing, sleep, energy, and overall quality of life. At Peak ENT, we specialize in diagnosing and treating nasal obstructions like deviated septums with precision, compassion, and advanced care options tailored to your needs.

If you struggle with constant nasal congestion, frequent sinus infections, or trouble breathing through one side of your nose, we’re here to help you find lasting relief.

What is a deviated septum?

The nasal septum is the cartilage and bone that divides your nose into two nostrils. When it’s off-center or crooked, due to genetics, injury, or age, it can block airflow and interfere with normal breathing. This is known as a deviated septum, and it’s more common than most people realize.

Common symptoms of a deviated septum:

  • Difficulty breathing through one or both nostrils
  • Frequent nasal congestion or stuffiness
  • Sinus pressure or recurring sinus infections
  • Snoring or disrupted sleep
  • Nosebleeds
  • Headaches or facial pain
  • Postnasal drip
In some cases, symptoms may worsen during exercise or at night, especially when lying on one side.

Diagnosing a deviated septum

At Peak ENT, we evaluate the structure of your nasal passages using a combination of physical exams and in-office imaging (such as nasal endoscopy or CT scans). This helps us determine whether your symptoms are caused by a deviated septum, enlarged turbinates, allergies, or a combination of issues.

Once we identify the root cause, we’ll build a treatment plan to improve airflow and reduce symptoms, without unnecessary procedures.

Treatment options

Conservative treatments

For mild cases, we may recommend nonsurgical options to manage symptoms:

  • Nasal steroid sprays
  • Decongestants or antihistamines
  • Nasal saline rinses
  • Allergy management (if applicable)

Septoplasty: Surgical correction for lasting relief

If your symptoms are severe or don’t improve with medication, we may recommend septoplasty — a minimally invasive surgical procedure to straighten the septum and restore normal airflow. It’s typically performed as an outpatient procedure, often right in our clinic, with minimal downtime.
Septoplasty may also be combined with turbinate reduction or sinus surgery if other structural issues are contributing to your symptoms.
